Margaret Edwards Durham (Peggy) Obituary
Peterborough, NH - Margaret "Peggy" Durham, 87, formerly of Evergreen, died on April 8 in Peterborough NH after a brief illness.
Peggy was born in Detroit in 1938, the daughter of Dr. Robert H Durham and Mary Louise (Edwards) Durham. She was an active student who earned letters in field hockey and basketball. She graduated from Pembroke College (now Brown University) in 1960.
Following college she worked at MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Massachusetts, and settled in Concord where she raised her family. She was an avid traveler, touring Europe, the American West, Alaska, and Africa. She also loved dogs and hiking, going to many wild places, especially out West.
In 2002 she resettled in Evergreen where she became a mainstay of the local Audubon Society, known as TENAS, serving as an officer and editor of the newsletter, as well as other nature-oriented associations. She participated in bird counts, trail work, and marshalled the occasional sled dog race. In 2019 she relocated to NH to be closer to her daughter and grand-daughter.
Survivors include two children, Elizabeth D Smith of Lyndeborough NH and Robert E Smith of Geneva Switzerland; daughter-in-law Trudy Harpham of Geneva; a granddaughter, Victoria Lorvig of London UK and her husband Dylan Millington; brothers Robert H Durham Jr and Sidney Durham; and nieces Betsy Floyde and Emily Durham. She also leaves behind many friends in and around Evergreen.
A memorial service is scheduled for June 6 in Concord, Massachusetts. The family welcomes remembrances - contact Evergreen Audubon for information on the live stream.
